as the new president of america i think he should take a little fairly unknown comment of Lincolns which goes, "first of all gentlemen we should get on with the work in hand, first, America then the world so" so son rebuild the states and try to keep out of every other country's business till you done yea, the wandering hobo.

I am of the Kennedy generation; we remember it well, and in our day it was just as stunning that a Catholic could get that job.  And he did; and for a while they talked about the 'what would he do if the Pope told him to .....' stuff.  But after a while, they forgot about the 'catholic' business, and realised this was a man who was President.

So with Obama.  It is a remarkable step for America to have elected a man of mixed race; but the people who voted for him did not vote (mostly) because of his race.  They voted for the man.  Sooner or later the media will have to realise that he was the chosen man for the job, not just a token Poitier figure who happens to have come to dinner, and the people in America who elected him were white, black, hispanic, asian, female, male - and voted Obama regardless.

And Grandmas everywhere, use her as a role model... your grandchild may achieve the apparently impossible!

After 240,000 folks left Grant Field in Chicago did anyone notice, all that was left behind was grass?  No litter, crisp packets, bottles or a mountain of rubbish that would have followed such a demonstration in this country.  Why?  Seems to me education must play a part, as does responsibility, and pride.  Finally, maybe the threat of serious punishment might have something to do with it!  What do the bleeding hearts think?
